Third World Problem: At the mercy of the moon

(Photo via moillusions.com)

First World Problem: It’s a national holiday and I can’t decide what to do with my day off from work.

Third World Problem: I don’t know if it’s a national holiday tomorrow because I’m waiting for a visual sighting of the new moon.

Mother nature is a fickle mistress, and while the lunar calendar has identified tomorrow as the start of the new moon, tradition says Eid al-Fitr (the holiday marking the end of Ramadan) cannot be declared until the crescent is actually seen.

And right now there are clouds in the sky. Grey clouds. Everywhere. Clouds.

Now I’m restless, have the overwhelming urge to prepare cocktails, strip off my clothes, streak in the woods, protect the village by day and terrorize the people at night.

Screw lunar sightings, I’ve got full moon fever.

Dear Moon,

Don’t let me down.

Love,
Angie’s Will to Live
