Syrian TV: Barcelona football team part of anti-Assad plot

Syria’s Al-Dunya television station has accused the FC Barcelona football team of helping smuggle weapons to opposition activists in their fight against President Bashar al-Assad’s regime.

Their proof? A clip from Real Madrid’s match with Barcelona in which Lionel Messi takes on four Real Madrid players before passing the ball to Carlos Pedro, who then scores a goal.

The formation leading up to the goal, the narrator tells us, represents the arms smuggling routes to Syrian rebels.

Last year Al-Duniya reportedly accused Al-Jazeera Arabic and other Arab TV stations of biased journalism.

Mmmmmm… no comment.
