Time to say goodbye

Peeps: today is my last day as a blogger for NOW Lebanon. In an effort to satisfy my unnatural tendency to spend countless hours on the Internet, I’ll be taking over the position of executive editor at Beirut.com.

When I first started blogging for this website in August 2010, I wrote up a mission statement which, in all fairness sounds like I was channeling my 19-year-old self on mescaline.  But two years on, I’m genuinely proud to say that this message is still one that I strongly believe in.  And so, I’ll leave you with this:

Pop culture meets politics in an irreverent mash-up made for the rebellious soul who lives by the mantra: do NOT as you are told.

We have inherited this country from a greedy class of political vultures, but that doesn’t mean we can’t challenge what the future holds. We criticize the audacious remarks and arrogant mistakes of Lebanon’s leaders with carnivalesque rebellion. This blog does not take sides, it criticizes all of them.

Resist the urge to become apathetic. Sweep away the illusions propagated by the nepotistic elite. Do not exercise restraint. Assault the people’s psyche with lunatic levels of creativity. Become addicted to unraveling the secrets, the mysteries, of life.

Absurdity is brilliant.  Goodbye inhibition. Throw open the windows and scream at the top of your lungs with violent dissatisfaction.

Demand real freedom.

We are keyboard assassins and social media provocateurs on a mission to uncover the truth or truths, whatever they may be.

Strangers, sure, but we are in this together.

As always, you can catch me on Twitter @angienassar.
